Okay. So. Thanks to Tumblr, we're all super-aware of feminism and gender politics. So just to clear things up, for the purposes of this game, we've decided to explain some gender conventions of the giant anthro-human robots to avoid fanfic fights or whatever.
Male -- also called mech, plural mechs. Meaning to display masculine qualities, either physically or personally.
Female -- also called femme, plural femmes. Meaning to display feminine qualities, either physically or personally.
Transgender -- was once A, is now B. Or, was once B, is now A. Or was once A or B and is now C -- and C can honestly be whatever you can explain it to be.
Do robots have sex?
For the purposes of this game, we're gonna say no. Reproduction is via Vector Sigma in the heart of Cybertron. Individuals can be cloned, or be generational clones, sure, why not? Brother and sister relations might just be another word for a spark-clone or production clone.
So, no. No robo-babies. No sparklings. No clangity-clang. It just doesn't make sense. Mostly.
However, there are other ways to enjoy each other's company, as robots. Like holding hands. Maybe kissing. Or sharing in VR simulations of... some kind. Use your imagination!
So how do they reproduce?
We here at TFExPF have our own explanation for that, but rather than raise a debate, you can just ask one of the ops if you're super-curious.
Why are there male and female robots anyway?
Canon has tried to answer this question in a variety of ways, all of which suck to the max. Especially you, Simon Furman. You misogynist creep.
Anyway, the theory that this board maintains is that long ago and far away, TFs started out as organics requiring gene pairing for reproduction. But as they evolved, they became more and more dependent on cybernetic augmentation until they finally replaced their organic bodies with more resilient silicon components. And that's why they look human and retain some humanesque characteristics, such as a face and limbs and various sensory limitations.
However, having shed their organic components meant changing their mode of reproduction. Without the mechanisms or requirement for DNA exchange, the TF race became more able to control the rate and quality of reproduction by artificially manufacturing themselves. I'd assume they began harvesting Vector Sigma for sparks, and just began building bodies for said sparks. But after a certain point (according to IDW comic canon), Vector Sigma was shown to have a limited supply of sparks, which became largely depleted halfway through the War. This resulted in the development of cloning technology, and unintentionally created a classist distinction between 'constructed cold' and 'forged'.
A 'forged' individual is an original spark from Olden Times.
To be constructed cold is to be a clone or a splice from an existing spark.
You can see where they got snobbish about being an original mold and being a knock-off or re-colour.
Anyway! That's our take on the whole thing. Feel free to put in your two cents on this thread!
